MARIKA'S KITCHEN - LONDON COOKING CLASSES... Cooking classes for beginners, cooking classes for couples, cooking classes for everyone!

The classes take place here in my kitchen, or in your kitchen and not in a training school, I find them a little too clinical for my taste. This way it’s a home from home experience, just think of it as an evening or day out with friends, cooking, eating and drinking. Lets face it, isn’t it more fun to learn that way? Cooking shouldn’t be taken too seriously, good quality ingredients and some basic knowledge and you are on your way to discover the world of cooking in your own time.

My down to earth 'hands on' lessons will give you the confidence in no time to whip up great tasting & nutritious meals. All quality ingredients are included in the price of your class, plus you will take home a book of recipes to recreate the dishes we've cooked together, plus lots of takeaway boxes of what you can't eat in the class!

I only use the freshest of ingredients; I buy from local green grocers, fish mongers and butchers, I live just off Green Lanes where I’m spoilt for choice, produce from all over Europe and Britain is available giving me daily inspiration

Haringey Food Festival took place in Green Lanes September 09. It was so successful they’ve made it a yearly event. Green Lanes is really up and coming on the foodie radar.

MY BACKGROUND
I have been interested in good food and cookery since I was a child. My father is from Corfu, Greece and my mother is Welsh, so I am lucky to have the knowledge of both great British and Mediterranean food and cooking, which reflects in my cooking classes.

My mum is an amazing cook, and I grew up watching and helping her in the kitchen. She would bake amazing pies, cakes and scones, and went on to master all the Greek and mediterranean dishes effortlessly.
On holidays we stayed with my father's family in Corfu, whereas a child I would help my aunties pick aubergines, peppers, tomatoes and the like from their farms to sell in Corfu town. I also cherished those summers remembering the way we spent hours slicing tomatoes and laying them out in the sun to dry.

I've grown up around these women cooking amazing fresh dishes and so from an early age I've appreciated the full flavours of good food, fresh herbs, the Easter spit roasted Lamb, fresh fish caught by my uncles to go straight on the grill (with huge amounts of oregano and lemon) when they returned home at night!

I moved to London from Cardiff about 15 years ago with my first band. We went on to have a top 10 hit and signed to EMI. Since then I went on to produce numerous music projects, have co-run successful clubs all over London, was a photographer and even sang backing vocals for Bryan Ferry (Roxy Music).

“What’s this got to do with food?” I hear you say, I’ll explain. As I got older I felt more and more passion for food, I decided the calling was too strong, fed up with the music industry I set out on my quest in the glorious food industry.

Firstly I assisted Enrica Rocca in her amazing Italian cooking school, and Cookie Crumbles, cooking parties for children. I then trained at College of North West London in Food Preparation and Cooking, became a Chef at The Real Greek in Hoxton, and arranged lots of dinner parties and events.

I decided to take the plunge in November 2009 with my school after lots of encouragement from friends wanting cooking lessons from me. So, why not try it I thought. After lots of planning I can honestly say its one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I am so looking forward to teaching you!
